Last month we attended our first Cleveland Flea, and it quickly became one of my favorite events in this great city! Held the second Saturday each month, The Flea is a pop-up market featuring and supporting local small businesses, including artisans and amazing food vendors.
The amazing assortment of Cleveland food vendors is one of the things we look forward to most at The Flea. The food trucks are a crowd favorite, but the booths feature some Cleveland classics, such as Campbell’s Sweets, Brewnuts, and Mitchell’s Ice Cream. Check out the beer garden for some refreshing craft beer as well! The Bottle House, which is located in Cleveland Heights, was pouring some refreshing beer, which helped beat the heat on a near 90 degree day! My husband and I enjoyed chicken nachos and a chicken burrito from the Wholly Frijoles Mexican Food Truck.
2. People Watching
Each month, the size of the crowd at The Flea grows, which means some great people watching! The crowd is very diverse in every sense of the word. We usually grab some food, pick a spot in the grass, and take in the sights.
Several of the vendors specialize in toys and nostalgia that will make you miss your childhood! My husband enjoyed his “Growing Pains” trading cards that he found! It is like taking a walk down memory lane as you look around and see those popular toys from when you were a kid. The price will make you wish you had held on to some of those items you let your mom sell at that garage sale! You can also find retro Cleveland team wear for the Browns, Indians and Cavaliers to get you ready for next season.
The Flea is filled with booths featuring artisans who call Cleveland their home. So much creativity and talent is on display, and you can find some amazing and unique items.
5. CLE Love
With the announcement of the 2016 Republican National Convention and LeBron James both picking Cleveland, it has been an exciting week for Cleveland, and there was a lot of CLE love on display at The Flea! You can find jewelry, etched glassware, art, clothing and home decor to help show your CLE love.
6. Live Music
While you are walking around, there is great music from local bands to listen to as you shop. You can hear a wide variety of music while supporting the local music scene.
7. Kid Friendly
We love kid friendly events, and The Cleveland Flea is a great one! When you look around you will see a lot of strollers, wagons and baby-wearing. Our son enjoys the food, people watching, and dancing in the grass.
I have enjoyed experiencing new areas of Cleveland that I had not seen before through our two trips to The Flea. This month, The Flea was held Tyler Village in Asia Town. Last month, the event was held at Sterle’s Country House in Slavic Village . They are always looking for a new, unique venue, so be sure to check out their Facebook page for the most up to date information about each month’s event.
9. Did I Mention the Food?
OK, I know I already talked about this, but it deserves to be on this list twice. Another vendor we had to visit again after my son enjoyed their donuts so much last time was the Donut Lab! We love their cinnamon sugar donuts, and they make then fresh and hot right there! Be sure to come to event hungry so you can try all the awesome food vendors!
With the event only happening once a month, we always leave with anticipation of what the next Flea will bring! Come and join us as we enjoy the best that Cleveland has to offer at the next Cleveland Flea on August 9th! Be sure to “like” them on Facebook to stay up to date on all the latest details!
