Cleveland has found itself on some big travel lists lately (Travel + Leisure, Fodor’s, and The New York Times just to name a few). There is no doubt that 2015 will be a big year for Cleveland. We are lucky enough to call this great city home. Cleveland has amazing food, culture, arts, recreation, parks, sports teams…you name it, and Cleveland has it! With Cleveland being a top travel destination for 2015, I have decided to start a series called “We Love Cleveland”, where I will share some of our favorite experiences and things to do in this great city. We kicked things off with a kid-free night out, and enjoyed a little staycation downtown!
We are so lucky that my in-laws live nearby and love to watch Patrick. They usually take him for a couple of hours so we can grab dinner, but they were willing to take him overnight so we could enjoy a night on the town to celebrate our birthdays (mine is the end of December and Dave’s is the end of January). We decided to use some hotel rewards we had to turn our night out into a staycation to enjoy some of the great things Cleveland has to offer!
We began our night by checking into the InterContinental Hotel, one of Cleveland’s luxurious hotels. We used our hotel rewards to book a suite for the night. The staff was helpful and friendly during check-in. Our room was beautiful, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. Dave was absolutely obsessed with the shower too!
A Few of Cleveland’s Sights
On the ride to dinner, I was able to capture pictures of a few of Cleveland’s popular sights along the way.
Dinner at Houlihan’s in Tower City
We started with dinner at Houlihan’s in Tower City. I enjoyed a wine flight while Dave had a liter of Tennessee Long Island Iced Tea.
We started off with the small spinach dip with tortilla chips. It was the perfect size for two people to share. The warm, cheesy dip was a great way to warm up after the cold walk from outside (did I mention it was below zero that night?).
Dave ordered the Prime Top Sirloin, a 9 oz. aged sirloin. It came with string beans and golden mashed potatoes. We both agreed I was the big winner at dinner though. My Stuffed Chicken Breast was amazing! The tender chickens was stuffed with a garlic herb cream cheese and it was delicious!
We had never been to Houlihan’s before, but we will definitely go back!
We spent the remainder of the evening at the Horseshoe Cleveland. We had originally planned to travel to a Casino in Pennsylvania for this trip, but realized why do that when we have great casino in our own city? I played my regular KENO for a bit while Dave did some table games. We ended up spending most of our night at the new TAG Lounge and Bar. TAG features video roulette, craps, and my favorite, blackjack. I have been waiting for Horseshoe to offer video blackjack because I a not a fan of table games. I ended up winning this trip, and coming home with more than I started with!
We had a great staycation in Cleveland! These are just some of the fun places to see if you come to visit! Check back for more great things to do as our “We Love Cleveland” series continues!
