I recently shared our goals for 2016. I spoke about getting healthy, reducing debt, and blogging more. However, there is one goal that Dave I share that I did not talk about…having another baby. I really hope we meet that goal this year.
When I started this blog almost 3 years ago, I was preparing to become a mother for the first time. I had no idea what to expect, but I created this blog to share our journey and experiences. Parenthood has been the most amazing experience, and Dave and I have enjoyed it more than we ever expected. After Patrick, we decided we wanted to have 3 or 4 kids instead of the 2 that was our original plan. We were excited to continue growing our family, but our path has not been easy.
As we have written about before, Dave is living with a Brain Tumor. While I was pregnant with Patrick, Dave went through radiation. Because of that, we knew we had to wait at least 18 months to attempt to conceive again. After the 18 month window ended, we began the process of trying. It was not easy to conceive with Patrick, and it took us 13 months. In the end, he came at the absolutely perfect time, and was conceived naturally.
When we started trying, after 9 months we decided to visit a fertility doctor. I am not getting any younger, and if we want to have more kids I figured it was time to help my body made it happen. I went on a hormone called Clomide, and after one month I was pregnant! We were so thrilled! However, that excitement was short-lived as I had a miscarriage a few weeks after learning the good news.
It’s been about 7 months since the miscarriage. I finished the remainder of my Clomide regiment after, but have not seen those 2 lines on a pregnancy test since. It has been several months of frustration, but we have also been enjoying our time with Patrick. He has become so much fun as he approaches 3. The holidays were wonderful, and my new job has kept me busy.
As we enter 2016, we have decided to get back to focusing on growing our family. This morning, I am writing this as I prepare to visit again with our fertility doctor, and determine out next steps in trying to conceive. It has been a long (18 months and counting) process in waiting for our second child, but I am hopeful that we will soon be blessed. This is one goal that I am not going to let go in 2016.
